Alien Abduction
I think Rosa was abducted by aliens last night.
As I went to bed last night, after the lights were off, and I was settled in to the quilts, I had that sudden wide, awake moment, where I realized I had left the main barn door open. I was so cozy and other than the fact that Rosa could come and go as she pleased overnight (which seemed unlikely given her daytime preference for only short yard wanders and then napping inside), I couldn’t think of a very good reason to get out of bed and walk across the yard to shut it. So I did not.
So you can imagine my intense alarm and overwhelming guilt when I went to do chores this morning, and I could not find Rosa. She is normally wide awake, yelling and ready for me at the door because I am the purveyor of breakfast cake. But she was nowhere to be seen.
Rosa always responds to my “sheep, sheep, sheep!” call—without fail. I holler, she answers-that’s our thing. I hollered and hollered and hollered, but I got no answer from any corner of the farm.
